Rules of Usability
A professional web-developer must be a visitor’s lawyer. He must to defend visitor’s interests and guarantee that independently from how site is difficult a visitor can always find everything he/she needs. So here are some rules and pronciples of Usability:
- A 7±2 Rule - Capacity of our memory is not unlimited that’s why George Miller affirms that we can remember approximately 5 - 9 things at once. This fact is usually is under discussion because according to it web developers must to reduce menue element to 7 points. You can read more here
- Two Seconds Rule - people must wait a system changes no longer than 2 seconds it can be loading other page or start of other process.
- 3 Clicks Rule - a visitor will not be delighted with if you suggest him/her to find necessary information in more that 3 clicks deep.
- Reversed Pyramid - it is a style of content writting where the main thought presents in the start of the article. So the main information you should place in the start.
- Satisfaction - Usually people don’t choose optimal way to find necessary information. They do not require the best quite the reverse people can accept quick and not the best information.
So above i listed some main rules of usability. Next time i try to explain some psychological moments in usability.
