IBM and Google announced new educational program
Companies IBM and Google together with six largest universities have started the program on promotion of the concept of programming for the distributed calculations.
The distributed calculations assume use of a plenty of the computers incorporated in a uniform network for carrying out of global scientific researches, complex modelling and other calculations demanding greater computer capacities. Thus the general speed of a network of the distributed calculations can exceed productivity of the most powerful supercomputers of the world. However, according to experts, the quantity of the professionals, capable to carry out programming of similar problems, is insignificant.
For project IBM and Google have allocated large computing claster uniting some hundreds computers, systems Google and servers IBM BladeCenter and System x. Students to whom access to the Internet will be given, can test with its help the projects within the limits of a training course on programming for parallel calculations. In servers кластера the software with the open initial code, including OS Linux, virtual XEN environment, and also technologies Google developed within the limits of project Hadoop under aegis of fund Apache Software Foundation, in particular, the mechanism of information search MapReduce and file system Google File System (GFS) will be used, informs TechWeb.
