Magellan Maestro 4200

The Magellan Maestro 4200 is the latest offering from Magellan, and they claim it’s the slimmest GPS device.

Actually the GPS device is quite basic, and features Speed Camera information and Post Code sorting along with the usual navigation features.

The Maestro 4200 is targeted at the no frills ultra portable market, so if you are looking for the Inspector Gadget of Satellite Navigation systems the 4200 is not for you.

It also comes with a Marco Polo travel guide, however the downside is it’s very limited and more like a demo which you have to pay to fully unlock. The processor in it is quite fast and is able to do calculations quite rapidly. The unit is also Windows Vista compatible.

The downside, it lacks Bluetooth functionality as well as traffic updates. The other strange thing, the unit can work in all of Europe but you must choose one region and once you have done this upon setup it’s locked permanently so if you hit an incorrect button at the stage it will render the device useless unless you pack up house and move to the configured locality.

I find this a really strange move by Magellan.

Other notable features include:

  1. 4.3″ wide WQVGA color touch screen.
  2. 1.3 million Points of Interest: Pre-programmed POIs make it easy to find gas stations, restaurants, ATMs, coffee and more.
  3. QuickSpell™: Exclusive auto-complete feature makes it easy to enter destinations with just a few touches of the screen.
  4. Address book: Create and store personal Points of Interest for easy reoccurring trips.
  5. SD-card compatibility.
  6. Customizable route: Select Fastest Time, Shortest Distance, Least or Most Use of Freeways, and Avoid Road Tolls.
  7. Rechargeable battery: Navigate for up to 4 hours when power is unavailable

All up it’s a good no frills unit and very compact, however for the price there’s many other units with far more functionality.
